Heavy Rotation: the best late summer house with an old school twist
Here’s our round-up of our favorite dance music sent to the blog in September so far. All of this music has been on heavy rotation here at TNLF HQ.
suncream – ABRUZZO
We’re going to kick off with a track inspired by an Italian wine region. “ABRUZZO” is the opening track from Suncream’s new EP, ROYD ICES.
“I wanted to create something that feels both reminiscent and yet fresh,” explains suncream when talking about the new EP. “But most importantly, I wanted it to stand out in this digital world we find ourselves in. It’s certainly dance music, but filtered through memory, nostalgia, and the feeling of staying out in the sun just a little longer.”
Caius x A/S/L – Let It Go, Baby
Next up, we have a new track from Danish producer and friend of the blog, Caius. He teams up with A/S/L to create this catchy old-school cut with hints of disco tucked in between.
Tiffy Vera – Say It Right
Tiffy Vera seamlessly blends soulful rhythms of disco with the infectious house beats. Born in the vibrant streets of New York City and nurtured in the rich cultural landscape of Asuncion, Paraguay, Tiffy Vera’s musical journey is a fusion of diverse influences and eclectic sounds. For her latest single, “Say It Right” she takes a sweet little Nelly Furtado vocal sample and weaves through an infectious old-school house beat.
Natheless, – That Thing
We step up the tempo with Italo-Mexican producer Natheless, and his new track, “That Thing.” The aim of his music is to bring back the emotion in dance music through lyrics developed around social worldwide matters. “That Thing” builds around a sort of spoken word piece that celebrates shared experience through music. And by the way… it’s fun.
Lau.ra – Champagne
A wonky dance floor heater from a formidable force in the electronic underground — it’s the new single from lau.ra: “Champagne.” I dare you not to get a bounce on to this one.
Tom Feral – DNDME
Then Tom Feral hits you with this super sticky bassline that includes a little dial tone stab to punctuate the beat. Love it.
Odd Mob x Hyperbeam x Omnom – System
Odd Mob is the recent solo project fronted by Brisbane-based Harry Hope. His latest single, “System” includes a wild little bassline with some acid synths and an MIA vocal sample.
Kool and The Gang – Celebration (Bido remix)
Speaking of an acid bassline, this Kool and The Gang reflip by Bido, combines some 303s to a disco classic. Can’t get enough of this one.
STBAN x Qubiko – Amor de Mis Amores (Qubiko Mix)
STBAN teams up with Qubiko for “Amor de Mis Amores” which combines flamenco soul with a sublime house beat. Just listen to that bassline.
Jan Blomqvist – Higher Low
For the next couple of tracks, we get a bit more atmospheric. A bit more cinematic. First up is the new single from Jan Blomqvist’s latest album: MUTE. The track is called “Higher Low” and it opens with cinematic synths before unfolding into a hypnotic groove. Jan calls on the emotive vocals of LissA to finish off the theme. It’s a ride.
Grandbrothers – Where Else
For the last track on the list, we’re going somewhere even further. The new Grandbrothers track, “Where Else” combines classical piano and electronic in a really interesting way. The track opens with rhythmic piano patterns before blending into a syncopated four-to-the-floor electronic track that fans of Bonobo, Jon Hopkins, or Rival Consoles would appreciate. The track is far-reaching cinematic electronic built around two halves.
Look our for the upcoming Grandbrothers album, “Elsewhere,” which is set to release later this month. You can pre-order the album here.
