After the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Luka Doncic in February, there was a bit of anxiety about whether he would stick around with the team long-term, since he had the ability to opt out of his contract in the summer of 2026.
“I think the stability is amazing,” Doncic said at media day. “It was great to work with JJ. Hopefully, we can work until the end of my career. I just love him as my coach. He will tell you anything. He will tell you if you did something wrong, if you did something good. Just approach to the game with him, it’s unbelievable so I’m very excited that he’s my coach.”
Redick is now under contract until the 2029-30 season, as his extension was reportedly a two-year deal, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania. While some are questioning the wisdom of giving him an extension just one year into his NBA coaching career, it at least gives the Lakers more stability in terms of their long-term future.
