Indie soul duo, Hot Mustard, serve up a brand new album entitled “Monster Season”
We were first introduced to the funky soul-jazz duo Jack Powell and Nick Carusos (aka Hot Mustard) back in 2022 when they released their debut album, Mother Sauce. This month the band is back with a new album entitled “Monster Season.” The new LP features members of TV on the Radio, Antibalas, and The Bogmen.
“There is some heavy contrast in this one,” says Powell when talking about the new album. “Part of it is light and easy and part of it is ominous and foreboding. An interpretation that I like is the need to overcome discomfort to reach a higher plateau.”
The animated music video was created by guitarist Jack Powell. His visual style is a cutout collage aesthetic that seems to draw inspiration from Terry Gilliam’s Monty Python style.
Have a listen to my favorite single from the album below, and if you like what you hear, head over to Hot Mustard’s site to buy the full copy of Monster Season.
