Björn Yttling takes us on an instrumental odyssey into the Jazz Underground
You might be familiar with Björn Yttling through his impromptu Swedish jazz collective — Yttling Jazz. Or perhaps you will know him from one of his bands like Abstract Crimewave or Peter Björn and John. Or maybe you are completely new to Björn’s sound and you are about to have your mind blow by the 10 new tracks of park bench philosophers and jazz cosmonauts that he has pulled together for this month’s edition of the Jazz Underground. Björn takes us on a instrumental odyssey into the Jazz Underground.
Featuring new music from Joakim Åhlund, Nino Keller, La La Lars, Langendorf United, Mats Gusstafsson — there is a lot of flavor with what has been added. From the more 60s-inspired horn-led music like Svenska Folkjazzkvartetten’s track “Loriken 2” to Tonbruket’s cinematic spy-thriller sound on their track “Hermetic Boogey,” Björn presents a real range within the genre. It all hangs together (and creates) a sonic story that carries the listener to an improvisational world of the unknown.
