Heavy Rotation: a round up of the latest house, techno, and chillwave to kick off the weekend
To launch you into the weekend, we’ve got 7 new electronic tracks that we’ve had on heavy rotation here at TNLF HQ.
Suncream – Move
We’ve been following British electronic producer Suncream for a couple years now. His music is slow, deep, and kissed with a bit of bliss. His nostalgic beats boldly set the scene before slowly making way for bright synthesised countermelodies. It’s a recipe for all the vibes.
Suncream’s latest single, “Move,” is another example of his soulful dance music magic. As he describes the track, the new single is “funkier than a pair of charity shop curtains.” It’s a slice of disco-infused deep house that offers a retro take on contemporary dance music. Syncopated percussive loops and acid-style synths swing in euphony to create an aesthetic that is fresh and original yet simultaneously wholesome and familiar. So let’s kick off your Friday with a bit of Suncream and his new single: “Move.”
Dan be – EfEm
Now that we’ve got things slowly simmering away with some of Suncreams soulful beats, it’s time to get our groove on with a new cut from up and coming DJ and producer, Dan Be. Originally from Spain, Dan Be has relocated to Glasgow to dream up a sound that is both full of groove as well as funky.
His new single, “EfEm” includes an infectious bassline melody that bounces you through the beat. It has an analogue quality to it that makes it sound totally unique (I haven’t heard anything like this before). But he compliments the catchy hook with more familiar synths that come in on the sidelines and anchors it all with a driving beat. Looking forward to hearing what Dan Be comes up with next.
Ian Allen – Cairo
Time to take the beat to somewhere more exotic. If Dan Be had us dancing in an underground UK club, Ian Allen is taking us to the sunny deserts of Egypt with his new track “Cairo.” Allen was born and raised in Miami, so is influenced by the strong Miami house scene there. Since starting producing under his name, he’s aimed to create a versatile sound that incorporates alternative styles of music into the genre.
“Cairo” is is latest single which transports us away to the North African shores. It’s packed with groovy beats, hooky percussion, and epic Arabic string breakdowns.
Matt. Faulk – WHOA! (feat. Dances)
Next up is the new single from Las Vegas producer, Matt Faulk. The new single is called “WHOA!” and it lives up to its name. “WHOA!” is a no-nonsense dancefloor sniper that kills it with a wobbly bassline and a straight-to-the-point vocal sample.
Kirill Levski – Reminiscent
Kirill Levski smoothes things out again with his deep house sensibilities and dub undertones. Based out of Moldova, Levski layers up his music with some blissed-out synth, underpinned by a classic old-school beat.
“‘Reminiscent’ is a groovy classic house-inspired track with soulful Rhodes and punchy drums to keep you moving,” explains Levski when talking about the new track. If you didn’t have a reason to get your groove on before… you do now.
Relova – All Night Long
Relova continues the soulful vibe, but this time with some R&B inspiration. The 25 year old German producer out of Dortmund, gives his own unique spin to to the tech-house sound by incorporating a brass section and some R&B vocals for his new single, “All Night Long.”
MKSTN – When It’s Over
To round up our rotation today, we’ve got the laid-back new single from Canadian producer, MKSTN (pronounced, “em-kay-es-tee-en”). Blending elements of analog and digital with programming and live performance, MKSTN’s music is made for lucid dream states. His music is emotional, intellectual, and sensory. A conduit from his inner tenderness to the internet’s often impersonal and sometimes impenetrable machine, MKSTN’s blend of chillwave, dream pop, and lofi house influences explore themes of love, technology, duality and time.
His new single, “When It’s Over” is pure synth bliss. The track comes from a late night synth jam and a haunting Juno melody, giving this song its sense of uncertainty and the uneasiness that can come with anticipation. The first single from the forthcoming album CONTENT, “When It’s Over” features drummers Chino De Villa (Jessie Reyez), and Braden Sauder (Luna Li).
