2025 Power Four and highest-ranked G5 champ predictions
Before The Snap predicts the 2025 Power Four conference champs and the highest-ranked G5 winner.
One of college football’s greatest traditions is having its swan song on Saturday, Aug. 30.
And since 1996, Corso has become a national treasure and fixture on «College GameDay,» largely in part thanks to legendary headgear selections in the pregame show’s final segment.
Corso announced back in April at the age of 90 that he would retire from his post on the «College GameDay» desk on Aug. 30 after nearly four decades. The lone member of the original «College GameDay» desk, Corso first joined the desk full-time in 1989 and has picked 69 different teams in his headgear pick segment.
To no surprise, Corso’s final headgear selection is set to be a bittersweet moment for all involved, as «College GameDay» travels to The Shoe for the Week 1 heavyweight showdown between No. 1 Texas and No. 2 Ohio State — the very first site where Corso’s famous segment began.
That said, here’s what you need to know about Corso’s headgear record ahead of Saturday’s show:
Lee Corso ‘College GameDay’ headgear selection record
According to Cole’s GameDay Blog, a site that has tracked all of Corso’s picks and been referenced by ESPN, Corso heads into his final headgear selection with a record of 286-144.
Last season on «College GameDay,» which included Corso missing a few weeks of the season, he went 12-5. After not making the trip to Dublin for Week 0’s «College GameDay» episode, Corso opened up the 2024 season with a five-game winning streak, which included choosing No. 4 Alabama to upset No. 1 Georgia for Kalen DeBoer’s first top-five ranked win in Tuscaloosa.
Noted by ESPN on X (formerly Twitter), Corso has had just one perfect season with his headgear selection, which came in the 1999 college football season when he went a perfect 11-0. Speaking of being perfect, of the 69 teams that Corso has picked over the years, the Grandfather of College Football has a perfect record with three of them: USC (17-0), Virginia Tech (4-0) and North Dakota State (3-0).
