Your LoFix #18 – classy jazz club
Welcome to The LoFix, a column to share some LoFi & Chill Hop that I’ve recently discovered and love. Giving you that fix of chill; something we all need regularly. And if you’re feeling the tracks, do share them with your friends.
It’s been a minute but we’re back with the the eighteenth edition of the series, I’ve hand picked a selection of jazz tracks that I’ve been enjoying this year and ooze class with their professional sound and impressive instrumental talent.
A debut release for Aaron Wood whose beautiful trumpet teams up with Matt Wilde on production and keys. What first led me to the song was the dope drums that have a very organic and unique pattern, providing a brilliant backdrop. Timing is everything on this track with the trumpet and piano coming in on the perfect moments without overdoing it, keeping it clean and polished to enjoy each moment they provide.
Multi-instrumentalist & versatile producers yani & Erwin Do deliver an elegant cover, with its catchy piano melody and horn section that work in harmony as they deliver Herbie Hancock‘s legendary track. Erwins lead piano is so smooth that it’s become my favourite track to kick back when cooking dinner and one I can have on repeat till I’ve finished, taken from their ‘Jazz Standards’ album that drops on May 9th that you can presave here.
mädmäx & yungmerrin are taking us on a peaceful journey with their ‘Viaggio Sereno’ single that dropped on urbanundergrounds. Walking us into the song with its floaty piano flow and double bass that gives the song a warm feeling, easing me into a state of calmness that’s become my evening routine when kicking back for a smoke. Very excited to hear more from these newly discovered artists!
Going for something that has a slight bossa vibe to it with the soft guitar chords that gently breezes through the ‘Vacance’ song like the wind on a fine summer’s day. Max Merseny is a name I always love to see on tracks as you know his Saxophone skills will bring a delight to any song and this time his warm tones work perfectly with softy whose multi-instrumental skills are showcased on the track.
Ending on something a bit faster than usual, the UK outfit Ezra Collective have provided some of my favourite jazzy collaborations and remixes. Dropping this gem on Record Store Day with a beautiful splatter vinyl, it’s been spinning on my vinyl player regularly. The upbeat groove is perfect to get people on the dancefloor or setting a positive mood for the day.
