Rival Consoles set to release ninth studio album — “Landscape From Memory”
Whether it’s creating the soundtrack for hit TV show Black Mirror, or playing music for crowds of dance fans around London, Ryan Lee West (aka Rival Consoles) has been an inspiring figure in the music scene for more than a decade now.
The upcoming Rival Consoles album, Landscape from Memory, will feature West’s style of stitched-together audio snippets, laid down over a foundation of haunted synth. When talking about the process of pulling these seemingly disparate audio clips together for the album, West says: “there is a kind of strange beauty to it because it involves the past, present and future in a very strong way.”
The lead single from the album, “Catherine,” weaves skippy melodic snippets of music into a full club track. “It’s extremely open,” explains West when talking about the track. “It’s just like a naked melody on drums, so exposed as an idea…” For West, having spent the past decade producing and writing in a habitual way, falling out of love with creativity meant a slowing of the clock that makes him tick; a sense of being swallowed whole by some elementary force. However, the time out also made room for his most invigorating record yet.
Landscape from Memory, will be the ninth studio LP that West will release under the Rival Consoles moniker. Have a look for the full album, set to be released on Erased Tapes in July.
